Tomatoes

Italian Tomatoes (Pomodori) are considered the best in the world. San Marzano, is the best cooking tomato, dry and meaty this is the tomato for sauces and is kept in jars year-round throughout Italy. For eating raw try Cuore di Bue, Costoluto Fiorentino, Marmande for fresh eating and also tarts. For salads choose Principe Borghese and of course the delicious little cherry tomatoes to eat anytime.
Nothing compares to a great tasting Italian tomato.

There are two types of tomato- indeterminate ( cordon) and determinate (bush) Indeterminate will need to have its 45-degree side shoots removed and the top shoot too, while the bush ( determinate ) variety doesn't. There are more cordon varieties than bush and the bush tend to be the smaller varieties.

Tomatoes love warm weather and are best grown as six to seven week- old transplants
